Antique Jacobean Buffet

A beautiful antique jacobean buffet with beautiful detailing.
The After
I love painting buffets. They are, sadly, becoming harder and harder to find.
A friend had messaged me on Facebook, saying that a buffet was being sold locally at a yard sale. What a friend!!
It had already been refinished. And although it was a great refinish, the natural wood grain took away from the beautiful detailing. I usually always keep the top a natural wood. I love the paint/wood combo
I wanted a weathered aged look. Layers and layers of paint, and glaze.
The two color gold was achieved with metallic paint and then gold mica powder with wax.
I think it works.

Happy to say that the buffet won 1st place in the Upcycling Pro category, held by General Finishes.

I'd like to know how many "jelly beans" you had to pay for this buffet. I bought one (circa 1920's) in need of repair and refinishing in a 2nd hand store, and it was $250. Hubby restored it beautifully. BTW, you did an outstanding job. Even though I highly oppose painting natural, especially antique wood.

I love this beautiful buffet, you have a very talented EYE. Wondered why the lower part of the buffet seems darker than the top. Looking at the original piece, I don't see a difference in the finish/color.

Thanks - just love this buffet. I've just redone one with aging stain and it turned out great. LOVE buffets. Great job
