How to Create a Whimsical Look on an Old Dresser Paint Pen Make-Over
I have had this little chest of drawers for over 15 years and the top is worn and marked and really looked in need of some updating and design. I was inspired by a whimsical painted look I saw in a home magazine and thought even though I've never done it before I'd give it a go.
I begin by painting the wooden top with green acrylic paint and the sides with pink furniture chalky paint.
The pink and green give a nice whimsical colorway and then preparing to do
the striped black and white legs with a paint pen .
The stripes I decide to do approx 1cm apart on back and front legs and will begin to add other accents of black and white along drawers.
The piece begins to transform and each stage I let it dry for an hour or so.
Next is paint some green accents and panels and pink sides to the legs.
Using masking tape to make painting easier and try and keep lines even. The top and front are the last to decorate and I decide to do do mix of black, pink, and green checks.
I decide to cover most of the drawer front green and leave white edge and do a black line to outline the green with paint pen and using a straight edge to guide.
I paint the top with pink, white, and black sections for added detail. The paint pens are super lovely to use and glide on well.
When dry I cover the whole piece with clear protective varnish,
the transformation is complete and now my bedroom is truly whimsical and beautiful 🌸
