Brass Dining Light is Updated to Classic Modern Black With Spray Paint
When renovating your home think outside the box when it comes to updating light fixtures. My daughter bought a new condo but did not have allot of money to spare to update it. BUT with spray paint and updating existing fixtures or purchasing second hand ones you can give a "new" updated look to your home.
See others in the condo we updated; bedroom "boob" lights and door knobs, vanity lights, towel bars, floor register vents, door stops and more again using spray paint. Most tutorials are posted here on Hometalk and on my blog .
My daughter found this solid brass beauty at the local Restore. It was the perfect size and shape for above her dining table.
Clean the light fixture well. Tape off all the glass or remove it if you can. We hung the light fixture from a hook in the garage and spray painted it with a matte black spray paint from Rustoleum in many light coats.
Remove the tape and your new light fixture is ready to hang.
New LED bulbs from IKEA were added to give great table lighting and a new look to the fixture.
The new to her light fixture was properly installed by her Dad who is an electrician. The chain allowed for it to hang at the height needed but the placement in the ceiling is a bit off for this table. But in the future we may swag it over to be centered but for now it is a fabulous update.

I bought some o my ugly light at habitat and at the flea market and goodwill and never paid more than a dollar for brass fixtures .Shame people do not see what they lost out on . I do love the one you di and wish I could find one like it .I am glad that people these days see what they can be instead of hat they are . My outside lights were all in 1 box for 3 dollars 6 of them 3 dollars and I was in heaven . Sanded them taped them off ,repainted and 4 years later they still look great and they are outside .They were brass and now have a metal finish

And never forget they are probably made a lot better than some of the new ones .I did over some ugly bras table lamps that the finish had worn off . they are now in the spare bedroom .I guess you can call us cheap but i call us smart .I even buy all my clothes at goodwill . Some still have the original price tags on them .I just got a table and chairs for my front porch 25 dollars and it looked like new ,even cushions looked new . I was happy and my truck was full

You say tape off glass or remove it. Do you know if you can remove glass from this type of fixture because that is what I want to do.
Great makeover, but why didn’t you also paint the pieces the bulbs go into?
Great job! Did you have to scuff the brass first so the paint will adhere well? I want to do this to the old shower door trim.
Also side note LOVE the pic on the wall! Where did you get that?
