We recently renovated our outdated kitchen, which included replacing a tile counter top with butcher block and installing a new single-bowl sink. This may seem like a daunting task, but if you have moderate DIY experience, you can do it yourself.
When I was planning the renovations here at BannockBurn 1878 I knew I wanted to incorporate some vintage pieces. The house seemed to beg for it! So… many years ago my parents gave us this vintage sink. It was in their attic. They took it out of their kitchen around the time I was born… I will just let you guess when that was! I always thought the drainboard aspect of it was interesting… and quite practical. After much debate about whether or not it was worth the time and effort to try and restore it… We decided to give it a try. I am sharing the whole process and my experience with it over on the blog. **I was given products for this project, but the post and opinion are my own.**When we moved in, we needed a new sink, but were not ready to replace the countertops. We loved the style of the farmhouse sink, but most were under mount, until we found the Josephine sink from Sinkology. S

We looked for a home that was pretty much untouched from the 50's so we could give the home it's glory. We didn't want a bad remodel from the 80's removing perfectly great on-site custom built cabinets original to the home & replacing with box cabinets using cheap product. This was the before...plastic tile back splash (yes I said plastic & falling off), original stained plywood cabinets scratched, scummy and some damage, countertop edging & top damaged.
My kitchen sink had seen better days. I (my husband) didn't want to replace it and when I bought it, it was fairly expensive, over 20 years ago. I was always reading questions on Hometalk about people wanting to redo tubs and sinks, so I decided to do some research. The cost listed is for the repair kit and refinishing kit. When the final coat goes on, you need to wait 48 hours before using the sink. A dishpan and the dishwasher came in handy. It dried hard, following that time restriction. I spent one day doing the prep and repairs. I had to wait for the time required for the repairs to harden, wiped everything down after sanding with a tack cloth. The coats of finish take 6 hours in between, although I waited longer. That was day two. Two days of curing for the new finish and then I had a new looking sink.
I took these pictures for Miriam to show what a slot drain is. Also, the sink is finished and ready to be sent to its new home. Unfortunately, we are not installing this one so i may or may not get pictures back after it is installed. I hope i do, i really like this one.
