Make convenient ?

I would consider taking the cabinets down and replacing them with much deeper open shelving so you can actually reach them easily. You could move the cabinets to the opposite walls facing each other and then behind them put up open shelving. I did a little sketch so you can see what I'm thinking.

Move them to the sides so that you can reach them. Then add deep shelves on the back wall.

Maybe put wire shelving between the cabinets? Just attach to the cabinet sides.

Could you keep a step stool in the room?

I keep most used products in the front of my shelves and have a stool to use for getting things on the higher shelves and in the back,

I had this same problem (life is not made for short people).

I removed the cabinets (it isn't hard) and lowered then about a foot. Now I can see what is in them when I open the door.

If you do not want to move the cabinets to the side. I know that would not be an easy job, and sheet rock would have to be repaired as well as the ceiling. I would put shelves between the cabinets. Also try pushing your washer and dryer back a bit.

Part of the problem here is that these cabinets are not suitable for storing common laundry supplies. They are too narrow, too deep and too tall. I would take them both down, and try to use them elsewhere in the home.

The other part of the problem is that the distance from the wall to the front of the appliances is too deep to reach, especially the upper part.

Removing the baseboard on the back wall, and recessing the electrical plug will enable you to to push the appliances back a little more. Removing the baseboards on the side walls will permit you to move both the W and the D closer to the side walls.

I would suggest purchasing/building a narrow pull out shelving unit to fit in-between the W and D. (see examples below)

Cover the tops of the appliances with a piece of laminate countertop. Besides creating a folding surface that is easy to clean, it will eliminate trying to retrieve items that have fallen off or behind the appliances.

Mount a hanging rod above the appliances for air drying clothes. This could be wall-to-wall, or from the bottom of a shelf, similar to the example in the last picture below.

Hi Maryl, I am vertically challenged and those two cupboards would be useless. I'd remove the cabinets (maybe you can reuse them somewhere else?) and go with long open shelves put up low on the wall. I love that idea in the photo where there is storage between the washer and dryer.

You could add floating shelves instead of the cabinets

You really should not move your appliances back toward the wall...you need space to get to the water controls for the washer and vent for the dryer. I think I would just lower the cupboards you have and put a rod between them for hanging dry clothes. Or as I mentioned before, use a small stool to reach the things in the cupboards and leave them where they are.

Put a shelf at the back of the machines and move the cabinets to the front sides.

If you want to keep the cabinets, a step stool should help you. If you don’t, the world is your oyster and you can create storage that works for you.

Maybe impossible , but can you rotate the dryer so that you can fit a stepstool next to the washer and install shelves?
