In Regards to Question: Need Help, 35yr. Old Fireplace / Being Redone

I have taken a lot of different ideas from all your comments and now I'm getting to work and have a direction I'm headed in. Fallowing are some pictures while in the process.
We are getting rid of the fireplace insert (going for sale)! Wait till you see what is taking its place. Not done yet!

As most of you stated " remove the wall paper"
Fallowed another suggestion... Changed the matting around the picture, because of the blue wall. Now this really off sets the picture off. Thanks for that idea, just painted the matting, worked great!
Now was the question what to do with that big blue wall? Mirrors on each side floor to sealing so no big mirror over fireplace would not work. Wanted to keep picture, I love it and there is an attachment. So I added removable wall decals from Target which was also commented on another post. I went with brown stems and white flowers or some
Not quite done with the wall yet, still need more flowers, need to space them around.

Thank you Lori, some of your ideas I have thought of doing and will try. I like the idea to shop at home....I shall be doing that right away. The bird cage has to big of a base to fit. I had already tried that. Well thanks, and I shall just be moving things around and shopping at home..
