How do i make over my ugly fireplace?

I don't think it's blah at all! Once you have it decluttered - maybe consider adding a chunky mantle to it. :)

Whitewash it! You can fill it with pillar candles I think that is so beautiful

I would just remove the whole thing. Then frame in the walls. Bit of a big job, But worth it

We just filled in the brick with cement so we had a flat surface again and then we painted the cement! Total cost was under $100!
