It always amazes me how repainting something can change the look. Take this table for example. I bought it at a garage sale years ago. It just sat in my garage waiting for me to decide what to do with it. Finally, inspiration struck.
But looking at this table you know I had some work ahead of me.  The top had little chips of paint so I felt the best thing to do would be to take it down to the wood.  Plus I had a plan for how to finish the top.  Unfortunately, when I got to the wood I realized it wouldn’t work.  I sanded the top and used paint stripper to prepare the piece for paint.  The legs were lightly sanded.  After all that the table got cleaned with a solution of white cleaning vinegar and water.
This table cried out for a beachy blue so I mixed the paint with a product I love called Poppies Furniture Paint Powder.  It is easy to work with and creates a chalk-like finish.
I started painting the table and everything was humming along.  Then it happened!  When I checked it the next day a little spot bled through on the table top.  To make a long story short I finally got it resolved.
The table really looked much better with the new color but I wanted to give it a little personality.  I decided to paint a stripe on the apron of the table.  I chose a contrasting blue and mixed it up with Poppies and added some glaze.  It gives the stripe a translucent look.
To do the stripe I use painters tape and tape how wide I want the stripe.  Don’t allow the paint to dry, remove the tape prior to that.  The table got a light sanding and was waxed for protection.
In my humble opinion, this table looks so much better in this pretty blue instead of the black.  What do you think?
