Pallet Office Organizer

Decluttering my home office...FINALLY!! I work from home full-time and haven't focused on making my space more functional or less cluttered; that was on my to-do list this year. I wanted a cool wall organizer to keep papers and stuff off my desk, but the ones I found online or in stores were pretty pricey. I love working with pallets and I had this partial pallet sitting around just waiting for the perfect project...and here we go...

Started by cutting it to size; I don't have a pic of the full pallet "before" but basically I had cut it in half for something else; what was left was pretty heavy for the wall so I cut it down further, using my jig-saw to cut between the boards.
this is after cutting it to the desired size
Next, I needed to fill in some gaps with scrap wood that I had laying around; I used a small trim piece to cover the "blocks" that are showing; then I used another piece to fill in the bottom so I would be able to stack files etc in there; here's how it looked at that point:
ready for the finishing touches
Next, I sanded it all fairly smooth with my palm sander, using about 100 grit paper...I like rustic but didn't want to be snagging myself! I planned to leave it unfinished to show up nicely against my newly-painted orange wall, but I did finish it up with a few coats on Tung oil which deepens the color and protects the wood.

Next step was to add the accessories to make this functional! I chose a few Command hooks that I bought from Walmart; a huge clip for hanging important notes; some Dollar store holders that I spray painted hammered gold...and now it's ready to be installed and loaded up!

I found the studs and secured it to the wall; I was going to use eye hooks and S hooks to hang the holders but found they looked good just sitting on the larger "blocks" of the pallet.

Here it is on my office wall...haven't put my folders etc in there yet but it's exactly what I wanted for this space! I just finished painting this room last weekend and still have some touch-up to do in the "grooves" on the panelled wall; I see it looks way more visible in the pics...yikes!!!
love the clutter-free desk top!
Close up...
And there you have it...another cool pallet project! This is only my 2nd posting so hope I did it right! In case anyone is interested, I live in a manufactured home, about 30 years old. Walls are panelled but I've painted over all of them.
