Summer is right around the corner, so now is the perfect time to spruce up your outdoor spaces! My favorite way to update a tired piece of furniture is by using spray paint. I am loving the coastal vibe right now and decorating with shades of blue, which is why I decided to try an ombre effect on my bistro set!
I used a handheld electric sander to sand the rust off the area until I had a smooth surface. After sanding any rust spots, spray the piece with a de-greaser, scrubbing if needed, then rinse well. Let it dry thoroughly before painting.
I used painter's tape to mark where I wanted the transition to be. It does not have to be perfect because you will create a blending effect with your colors. I painted the bottom half of the table and chairs with Seaside first. Once it was dry to the touch, I removed the painters tape. I then applied a coat of Lighter Turquoise to the top half of the set.
Supplies:
  • 2-3 cans of spray paint (I used Rust-Oleum Gloss in Ocean Mist, Seaside, and Light Turquoise)
  • Degreaser, such as Krud Kutter
  • Hand held sander
  • Spray paint trigger grip
After the piece has dried for at least 24 hours, you are ready to use it. Now I can relax on my front porch with my new magazine and dream of the next project I am going to tackle!

Looks great, I love it. last summer I painted a metal trash can with the same paint, different colors and it is already flaking off in places. I did not seal it. Did you add a sealer to your set? I don't know why mine isn't holding up, it's under a covered patio. Luck of the draw, bad paint?
