Hi! The easiest method is to clean it carefully (furniture gets pretty dirty) with a TSP substitute like Krudkutter. After it's dry, lightly sand it if you're painting. Paint it with a water based sealer like Kilz after wiping off the sawdust from sanding (I use a damp microfiber cloth). Then use chalk paint. After a couple coats, go over it with a dark wax. Good luck!
Hi,
If you mean paint effect aged look. paint - rub down corners and places that might ware, repeat with another colour paint, - repeat until happy with the result, then seal with antique wax.

if you want a crackled finish,-
a section at a time, coat it with school glue and paint over the wet glue. Don’t overwork it.
As it dries the glue shrinks & crackles the paint.
