How do I refinish a split, peeling veneer compressed wood table?

I thought I would remove the veneer, sand and stain. But.. I found out that it was not solid wood underneath, but compressed wood. I would like to keep this table, but I'm at a loss as to how to refinish it. Any suggestions?
You may have to remove the loose veneer, fill it with wood putty or bondo and paint it.
Remove any damaged veneer. Fill with Bondo, auto body filler. Sand smooth, prime and paint.
Hi, sand down the veneer that has popped up. Use a wood putty to fill those sanded areas and sand. You can then either paint or stain to match the wood veneer. Good luck.

A company called Leech has a new product that is made from wood fibers. Can be painted or stained. Good luck.
i have a similar issue with a table top. Wondered about adding some tile or flat stones on top -- then pouring epoxy over??.
Replace the Veneer!
i would send it down first to see if it works but for sure replace veneer that is not expensive

No easy answer here. Any raised or damaged veneer will need to be replaced carefully.
