Supplies
- Moroccan Geometry Stencil from Royal Design Studio
- Travana nightstand in Pine from Ikea
- Wood Stain & Seal in Antique Mahogany, Van Dyke Brown, and Honey Pine from Faux Effects®
- 1 ½” and ½” Royal Stencil Brushes
- Annie Sloan Clear Wax
- SoSlow Extender
- Chip brush
Step 1: Place and secure the Moroccan Geometry Stencil onto the center front of the piece of furniture using painter’s tape.
Step 2: Load the 1 ½” stencil brush with Antique Mahogany Stain & Seal®. Offload the excess stain from your brush using a paper towel. Use a circular motion with light to medium pressure when you paint the stain onto the stencil design.
Step 3: Remove the stencil and use the registration marks built into the stencil to reposition it for the next repeat.
Step 4: Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 until the front, back and sides of the furniture are stenciled. On the sides, start stenciling from the top using the ceiling filler that comes with this stencil. Allow to dry.
Step 5: Replace the stencil directly on top of the pattern you just stenciled. Use the ½” stencil brush and Van Dyke Brown Stain & Seal® to stencil the smaller design elements. Repeat this step with the front, back, and sides of the furniture. Allow to dry.
Step 6: Mix 1 part Honey Pine Stain & Seal® with 1 part SoSlow Extender. Apply the mixture over the entire furniture piece with a chip brush. Immediately remove the excess mixture with cheesecloth.
Step 7: Protect your furniture piece with 2 coats of water based polyurethane or Annie Sloan Clear Wax.
Now you have beautiful faux wood inlay furniture! If you want to take this DIY project to the next level and create a faux bone inlay, you can use a mixture of Old White Chalk Paint® and Pearl Oyster Royal Stencil Creme for some of the design elements.
