Having windows that let in a good amount of light are a great benefit to a home. However, sometimes those windows can also become a huge pain. If you live in an area with a lot of ambient light at night, all that illumination coming into your bedroom can make it hard to sleep. Or if you work nights and need to sleep during the day, having curtains or shades to block sunlight and create a dark space for you to sleep is a necessity. Or perhaps you have a little one who needs a dark room to take naps throughout the day

For situations like this, blackout curtains might be your best option. Not only can they keep light out of a room, but some can even help block heat on hot days. And as the UV rays from sunlight can damage furniture fabrics and carpeting, blackout curtains can help protect them as well.

Keep cool and shaded; here’s a round-up of our top picks for the best blackout curtains available on the market today.

Great guide. When I cannot find black out curtains I like I buy regular curtains and put blackout fabric on a rod behind the curtains.
