How to get rid of flies during a bbq?




I'm getting ready for a BBQ party, and one thing that always bugs me (literally!) is dealing with flies buzzing around the food.
Any DIY solutions on how to get rid of flies during a BBQ? I'd love to hear your suggestions on what I can put around to keep those pesky flies at bay.

Bug spray doesn't work.
They hate the smell of lemon and cloves. Slice lemons and put some cloves in them. Put them in bowls and place them around your bbq area.

As reported by others, there are certain scents that will help to repel flies. Purchase some essential oil in any of those scents and place a few drops of it in a spray bottle with water. Shake well and spray the area well before the bbq starts. Apply the essential oil to a few cotton balls and place strategically in the area as well.

Gallon clear glass jars of water sitting around and hang ziplock bags of water if you have a place. They fly near it, see the enlarged reflection, and buzz off.
