In this video, Andrew shows you how to replace an electrical outlet. Disclaimer: electricity is dangerous. Always make sure you've cut power to the electrical circuit before you work with outlets, and verify that it's off with a voltage tester. If you aren't comfortable working with electricity, seek help from a qualified professional. Follow all local codes.
I always double and triple check the outlet with a non-contractual voltage tester to make sure that there's no power in the outlet before I work on it.
Once the new outlet on, you'll have to carefully pack the wires and outlet back into the receptacle. It's not difficult, but at times feels like refolding a road map.
Once it's all back in, tighten the screws back down on the faceplate and check to make sure the outlet works.
Suggested materials:

  • Unbreakable nylon Decora faceplate   (Home Depot)
