How to add a little flare at the top of sheer curtains?
I love sheer curtains = to let as much light in as possible because my house is shrouded in large shade trees.
Looking for suggestions to add a 'little something' at the top that is not gaudy or something from 'yester-year'.

What about attaching some ribbon in colors you love?
Would a second very short curtain across the top like a valance be something you would like? It could be in a fun color to match your decor etc.
You could attach another rod above the sheer that sticks out 5-6 inches with a beautiful piece of material that makes a ruffle. Can even use another sheer that you cut and hem to about a foot long and gather it on the rod so it still lets in the light.
You could create a valance from vintage fabric, scarves, or handkerchiefs.
you can find iron on fabric in different colors and widths to put on the top
also a burlap piece of fabric it comes in different colors and widths as well
I love curtian rods that have a little extra on the ends - like these here: https://amzn.to/3nNWfjt

How about something like this:

I went in a slightly different direction with my sheers. I went hombre and they look great. Graduated from dark gray to white with the darker colors being on the botton. Amazon has them and they aren't any more then regular sheers.
You could trim your curtains with Ribbon using stitch Witchery. I personally love the black and white. Michaels and Hobby Lobby have beautiful grain ribbons which can be up to several inches thick. You can choose a color that goes with your decor.
What about some fairy twinkle lights?
Ball fringe/ pom pom fringe is my go to for a yesteryear look. I add it to everything! I would add a bit of it either to the sides ( I know you said top, but I love the way it looks down the sides) or across the top at the seam.
If you visit a large fabric/craft store and look in the products you can buy by the yard, you'll likely find a variety of options. Perhaps a small chain of rhinestones, pearls, or pompoms? Something may strike your fancy such as upholstery trims, etc. Just keep a very open mind and search a few stores for something that really pleases you.
I would go with some kind of fringe in a color or colors that you love. Tassel fringe, ball fringe, or whatever else you can find that strikes your fancy.
Here are some examples of how plain sheer curtains can be spruced up by adding trims such as pompoms.

Hello you might consider very narrow ruffled fabric stripes
Hi Cindy, a few beads behind the curtain would look lovely, especially when they catch the light.
You could use fun detailed curtain rods
I agree that a valance would look great, especially in a contrasting color with the curtains. Here are some to look at and there are even seasonal ones there (Christmas, etc) How fun!

A small valance will work nicely. You can get some very simple designs. I purchased my last set from Amazon.
Strings of pom poms stitched on are quite popular these days and a cute look. Swing through the fabric store trim section and see what catches your fancy.
A fairy lights would be pretty! Or adding some ribbons.
You could add some type of trim depending on what look you are going for.
Ribbon, Braid, Beads or Paint
Maybe add strings of large wooden beads . That drape from the top.
