My friends and I have a few Jack Russells between us. Our dogs love nothing more than to destroy a dog toy. They don't like those hard supposedly indestructible dog toys they love the soft ones with the squeakers. To save money and because I love to repurpose old jeans I made my dog and my friends dogs a load of cute toys out of denim complete with squeakers.
All you need to make these really cute dog toys are some denim scraps, fiber for stuffing and of course the dog squeakers.Replacement dog squeakers can be bought online Click here to see the ones I used.
First thing I did was make a bone shaped template you can draw your own or print the one off my blog link at the end.
Cut out 2 bone shapes for each dog toy. It is nice to use contrasting denim if you can.
Pin these denim bone shapes right sides together and sew around the edge (either on a machine or by hand). Leave a small gap for stuffing.
Turn you bone right side out and then stuff. I used a wool fiber to stuff my toy with but any child-friendly fiber stuffing will do. Don't forget to add your squeaker before stitching it closed.
As these dog toys were so cheap and easy to make a made a whole pile of them for all my friend's dogs and a few spare. I think I'll also give one to the beagle at the bottom of my street.
Top tip, if you include a jeans pocket in your dog toy design you can hide a treat in the pocket which adds a whole new dimension to the dog toy. My dog Toby loved trying to work the dog treat out of the dog toy pocket.
If you love to recycle your old jeans like I do then you might want to check out all the other things I have made out of denim. Click here to see them.

Awesome idea especially utilizing the pocket
childrens toy stuffing is flame retardant so it’s not the best stuffing
my standard poodles like taking the stuffing out anyway so these as “flat toys” will be great!

Thank you, I think you will find most home furnishing stuffing is flame retardant too.

Have a question about this project?
How long does it last. My guy is a crazy chewer
Today I was cutting up some jeans to make catnip toys and the bone toys. Just last year I started making toys out of fleece. I donate to the animal shelter. I like having different options. It's too bad I cannot test out the toys with my dog, she is not into toys. Do you have other projects for animals?
