30 Minute Farmhouse Style Wall Hangings

I had wanted to make some new signs and had this idea in my head for ages. I stumbled across three old wooden wall decorations in a charity shop and I knew they would work perfectly for what I had in mind!
I chose the fonts I wanted to use and resized and arranged the text in Microsoft Word. I inserted my chosen fonts into text boxes to position the wording.
These were the wall decorations that I found and they cost $2 for all three. As soon as I saw them I knew they would be perfect to reverse and turn the unfinished wooden frames into signs. First I removed the screws from the frames since I would be flipping them over. Once I had chosen the fonts they were so quick to make and literally took half an hour.
Next I applied a wood stain to the wooden frame of each picture in the shade walnut.
It took a few coats to get the desired shade and I applied the stain with a lint free cloth.
I trimmed the prints to the correct size with a precision paper cutter. This stage took some patience as I found that I needed to trim the card down gradually in order to get a tight fit.
I then stuck the printed card to the inside of the frame with all purpose glue. I made sure I spread this thinly over the entire surface so that there would not be any bubbling. I also applied a thin coat of polycrylic over the entire surface to give some protection and create a subtle sheen.
I used command strips to attach them to the wall. This was my first time using them and they are a little fiddly to use but once I had measured where I wanted them they hung the frames perfectly.
I love how quick and easy and inexpensive this project was to complete. And even more I’m in love with the finished result and this was just what I had in mind for this space.
I hope this project inspires you that the perfect wooden signs can be found hiding on many a treasure hunt and are waiting to be transformed into something new!
