Garden Updates

A few updates to our garden in progress. We tried to grow herbs in a pallet but as the herbs were still in their little plastic pots on the pallet's shelves, they dries out too quickly. So following an idea I saw where someone else was using these rigid plastic kids paddling pools to grow herbs and veg, I thought this might be a better option. The herbs have more soil to grow in and should not dry out so quickly in hot weather. I put the drainage holes around the sides rather than in the bottom of the 'pool' about 2 inches from the bottom. This should mean it does not dry out so fast. Finger crossed! We have purple basil, boxwood basil, chives, shallots and watercress - all herbs that need a lot of water.
Next up we got given a timber garden table in good condition. It had weathered to a grey colour but after two good coats of decking oil it came up really well. The black pot on the table was given to us by a neighbour and has sweet chilli growing in it. The same neighbour gave us two old concrete, painted garden urns (he is selling his house and moving on and won't be taking anything with him). I mounted them on either side of our garden path on tree stumps and planted them up with Kniphofia - Red Hot Pokers - a dwarf variety that has grey foliage and yellow flowers - called Pineapple Popsicle. In the same pots for some contrasting colour is white Alyssum. Lastly some Kangaroo Paw plants grown from seed. Finally flowering. Reds and Yellows.

Everything looks great....you did a wonderful job on refinishing that table, looks wonderful! I love the kiddie pool herb garden idea, I have two cracked ones that I used for my ducks when they were small but they don't hold water now. Perfect! Thanks for sharing that. Those Kangaroo Paw plants are very interesting, I've never seen them before. Pretty plant.
