Buffet Makeover

After buying this beautiful buffet for an amazing deal from craigslist, I contemplated painting the piece for over a year. It was a great piece, but was not working with the decor or the new rustic table we had built for our dining room.The wood tone felt wrong with my neutral decor and the style (thought I love vintage) was a little "fancy' for what I was picturing in here.
Well, one impulsive day I went for it! I decided to create my own chalk paint using plaster of paris and flat white paint and gave it a makeover. It instantly felt better, but still needed more of a rustic touch. I added some dark wax and distressed the piece, which made a tremendous difference. The last step I did was to use some onyx rub and buff on the hardware and it finally felt complete. Though I loved the piece in its natural state, it now works best for my home and I am able to work with it and not around it.
This is such a great way to really make existing furniture in your home work with your new style. So many people have hand me downs from relatives and though they may be hard to part with adding some paint can make anything work with your style color scheme.

I so want to do this with mine but I think mine is so much more glossy that the thought of having to sand and sand just turns me off. You did a superb job! it looks amazing.
