I adore Window Baskets! But, I don't adore having to keep the plant materials alive & fresh... So The Hubby & I came up with this semi-permanent fix... What say you, Hometalk peeps?
I promise it DID look much better earlier in the season, but as always, plant materials wither, no matter how much water & attention you give them!
We went ISO awesome fabric ~ we knew it needed to be heavy to maintain it's shape, so we chose upholstery fabric. We measured, then cut with room for excess & laid it inside the window basket...
We trimmed off the excess....
Now to keep it in place. We choose tie wraps ~ easy, sturdy & fairly cheap when bought in bulk. We used a utility knife it poke a small hole in the fabric, then inserted the tie wrap...
Tightened the tie wraps...
Clipped off the unnecessary ends...
One last trim around the edges for a neatly finished look. We stuffed the window baskets with the old coconut liners to help the fabric keep the shape of the window basket.
Hubby added a shelf in each one so that we had a flat, stable surface for our decals to sit upon... We choose bird houses, candle holders & yard art of all kinds for ours, but the sky is the limit! I intend to Christmas~ize them when the time comes, but the decor could be changed to compliment each & every season, for those so inclined!
Then we added bright, seasonally colored florals for color & "POP!".
We love the look & can hardly wait to decorate them & light them up for Christmas! :-)
Viola! :-)

I think this is fantastic but what keeps them from falling over. I admit I didn't read about, I just saw it and fell in love with it.

What a really good idea! I have 2 ceramic window boxes, but because they face west, it was impossible to keep anything growing. We have a serious drought in Australia (New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria) and we also have severe water restrictions in place. No using the hose, to water plants for example. Have to use either buckets or watering cans. So this idea is the ideal answer for me.
