I purchased this really fabulous basket at the thrift store. It was very dirty and chipped. Little did I know that it was the perfect fit for my counter-top Christmas tree. Simply giving it a white wash paint treatment turned it into the perfect weathered look.
It looks so pretty now. I just love the look it gave my kitchen tree that I've been using for many years.
I cleaned the basket of all dust and spider webs. Then I added a wash of chalk paint. You simply paint it on and wipe if off with paper towels. I use a ration of a heaping teaspoon of paint to 1/4 cup of water. It's the consistency of skim milk.
I filled the basket with Styrofoam. This anchored the base of the tree. I wouldn't do this with a larger tree. I'd be sure to secure it in a plastic container with quick set concrete.
To cover the Styrofoam, I tucked in a couple of toile napkins.
It's a French Farmhouse beauty now. Love the weathered look it now has!
Enjoyed the project?

I have been wanting to do something very similar for years How do you determine the size of the basket (container) in relation to the tree?
