Christmas décor can get really pricey, really quickly. But it doesn't have to be this way! Take a trip to your local thrift store and you are bound to find tons of Christmas-y decorations that just need a little bit of love and elbow grease to really be something beautiful. That was what happened here, we were sent an old, worn out and plain metal Christmas tree and the resulting project is too cute for words - a Christmas Tree Clothespin Frame to showcase your holiday memories! Check out more posts like this at www.diyjustcuz.com :)
The before - plain and boring. Without a little love, this piece would just sit in a home and have no purpose or function...that's where DIY comes in! We knew exactly what we wanted to do given this as a base.
Materials Used: Frame / Christmas Tree Shape, Glitter (and lots of it!), Mod Podge, Twine, and Clothespins
The first thing we did was applied glitter to, well, EVERYTHING! The best thing about the Holidays is sparkle and glitter are 100% acceptable (over the top is almost a necessity).
That included the clothespins! We spread mod podge (you could use some similar glue like product) all over the surfaces we glitter-ed, poured the glitter on and allowed it to dry. Easy as that!
TIP: To ensure the glitter stayed on, we added a second coat of mod podge on TOP after the first had dried. That way we won't have sparkles all over the house for the entire next season.
While that dried, we started creating the "frame" structure. Using the tree and it's handy hooks to guide us, we tightly wrapped the twine around the tree. It's important to make sure the twine is tight so the pictures don't sag.
After everything completely dried, we took some adorable pictures of our favorite little girl and hung them on the frame! It's crazy how simple the project was and how gorgeous and professional it looks.
The after...the final product! The greatest thing is this can be used for photographs or even Holiday cards - so many functions. Have you ever made a Clothespin Frame?
