We refreshed our powder room by painting the out-dated wall tile. The transformation was amazing, yet so affordable and easy - anyone can do it!
First, I cleaned the tile using a de-greasing spray and let it dry over night. Then, I painted the drab old tile using oil based primer, followed by two coats of oil based paint. I don't use oil based paints often, but I needed something that would stick really well and deliver high shine. If you try painting tile, you should definitely open all the windows and wear a respirator.
I also painted the trim around the window black and hung an antique stained glass window. The stained glass obscures the view inside the bathroom and it faces our backyard, so privacy shouldn't be an issue.
For the over toilet shelf, I stained an old wine crate and screwed it to the wall using the same holes as the previous shelf.
The side-by-side comparison makes me so happy! We thought about tearing out the tile and replacing it with drywall, but I'm so glad we didn't! Painting the tile was a much easier (less dusty!) solution and I LOVE the way it turned out.

Your old ceramic tile looks just like mine although I can't tell the color of yours. Mine is a pinkish color and I hate it. What color was your old tile?
