Repurposed Gulf Oil Canister
by

(IC: homeowner)
Picked this up past week at local flea market. Very solid 5 gallon can. When i saw it knew it would make a nice match to my other one that is similar.
I could not find this can online to get an value and dealing with gas and oil i know Gulf is one of the top choices for collectors so i did as little as possible to the can to make it still work.
Next it was time to hunt down an lamp to use.
The next day i found this nice vintage lamp at my local Habitat and decided to go with it even though it is chrome.
I started to dissemble the light and found that the goose-neck fits perfectly into the smaller spout of the canister and will tighten down.
There were 4 different sections in the spout for different pour sizes. I just removed to top cap. For the lamp i removed the entire bottom section and used neck and shade.
This project is still not complete but just wanted to share it and maybe get some feedback about the shade. I am thinking about switching the shell to an old galvanized funnel to match the age of the Gulf canister. I will add more photos once i do finish, i am searching for an Shell Oil Canister and would then use the shell fixture for it.
Enjoyed the project?
