This week is one of the best week's to make your own 4th of July decorations because most of the craft stores have already marked the red, white, and blue decorations down to half price. I was able to make this adorable door decoration for less than $10 with the markdowns and coupons.
For starters I found this pallet type cutout at Michael's for only $6.99, but with a coupon it was even less. The cutout is very rough wood but I decided not to sand it down and instead to use it as is for a rustic finish after painting. First I primed the cutout with flat finish spray paint in white.
I then created a start pattern using MS Word and cut it out as a template. I traced several rows of stars on the cutout.
I then painted around the rows of stars in a deep navy blue acrylic paint.
The final step was a to create a bouquet of red, white, and blue flowers (bought at half price of course), wrap the bouquet in red burlap ribbon and attach it to the wood cutout with craft wire.
