Patriotic Home Decor for $3

If you like to decorate for the holidays and are constantly changing your home decor ... thrift shopping is the way to go! Here's how I took garage sale SCORES and have created fun Fourth of July decor ... for UNDER $3!!
I scored a WHOLE BOX of Mason jars with stars on them for $3! What's more patriotic than that?! At the same sale I found two round trays priced at $1 and $2.
While the trays look good in photos, in person, not so much. But a little paint and distressing will fix that! But the rusty metal is awesome, and we want to keep that. To ensure the paint won't adhere to metal, just rub a little petroleum jelly on it. Once dry, the paint will just wipe off .... I promise.
Time to paint! I used leftover white paint from another project, and just watered it down a bit before painting. The trays will be heavily distressed so I wasn't worried about perfection. While the paint was drying, I sprayed three of the lids ... you guessed it .... red, white and blue. Then I distressed both trays with 150 grit sandpaper.
Not bad for under $3, right? The remaining star Mason jars make excellent drinking glasses. Just perfect for dining outdoors!
What about those star molds?? OF COURSE they came from a garage sale! As did the bistro set, which I've linked below if you want to see it's transformation. Happy Fourth of July!
