If you are a dahlia grower like me you are probably feeling as excited as I am about your late summer garden right now! There's no doubt dahlias steel the show after many tried and true perennials have begun to fade. Today I'm sharing some new blooms from my garden!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Jennifer Pospichal on Aug 27, 2013They're beautiful! Nice work! I love Dahlias, but mine attracted adult rootworm beetles that chewed the flowers petals down to ragged little stubs. I don't know of any pesticide that would keep the beetles at bay without harming bees, so I just quit growing Dahlias. At least I can enjoy looking at yours!

Jennifer Pospichal on Aug 27, 2013Thanks! The leaves do fine, but the beetles chew off the flower petals. I'll definitely check out Sluggo and see whether it's non-toxic to bees. If so, I'll put Dahlias in again next spring and douse the flowers when they start to open. Thank you for the suggestion, and also for sharing photos of your beautiful flowers!

Deborah Jean of DANDELION HOUSE BLOG on Aug 27, 2013@Jennifer Pospichal Best of luck Jennifer! I do hope that the Sluggo proves to be non toxic to bees. I do know that my dahlias have plenty of Bee visitors!

Deborah Jean of DANDELION HOUSE BLOG on Aug 27, 2013@Jennifer Pospichal http://www.non-toxic-pest-control.com/bait/sluggo Here is a link for Sluggo... It claims to be non toxic to pets and other insects... We have a small dog who is prone to chewing on garden grub sometimes.. I wanted something that was safe for him too!
