Unwanted Dog Kennel

Made a dog kennel in whick the new owner didnt think much of, or simply wanted to be near his mate.
We had one dog Herbie and he had a bought plastic kennel and l think he liked his home.

Then along came Ollie.

Herbie didn't like to share his kennel , so poor little Ollie had to sleep outside on the ground. So l thought the least l could do was to make Ollie his own little home.
So l got to work and salvaged a small pallet ( you could even make your own base out of some 4×2 timber, any offcuts; as as its off the ground ).

Then l just made an A frame structure again using offcuts ( you could even get all your materials from a building site bin ). Also got some hardie flex from a building site for the walls.

Put a tin roof on and some nice thick carpet for the floor, and bingo Ollie had his own kennel !
So l'm thinking all good both dogs are happy!

But No, Ollie didn't like his kennel he wouldn't use it.

Bugger that was a waste of time!

But then l thought what if l cut a hole at the back of the made kennel and joined both together, then they would have a living room and bedroom all in one, or Ollie can use the front one and Herbie have the back.
Anyway it turns out that Herbie loves his new addition that much, he was willing to share now and they both sleep in the rear bedroom kennel and they love it.

I suppose whats happened is that, the kennel has taken the dogs back to their roots as wolves who live in caves and holes etc. But for outside dogs, it has taken them away from the elements too, away from the wind and rain, and when its too hot they have always got the living area to relax in.
Suggested materials:
  • Pine, tin, hardie plank, metal strapping, offcut carpet, screws and tek screws   (Offcuts from home and building sites)
  • Cost was zero dollars   (Degree of difficulty around 2 or 3 ( fairly simple ))
