Easy Clean DIY Dog Bed – Upcycled Foam Mattress

2 Materials
2 Days

Hi All, I am embarking on a quest to use up the old pieces from our old foam mattress, my last project was to make a silly frilly cushion for my craft room chair and I have a few other projects in mind as well. But a dog bed seams an obvious choice for a foam project so here we go

The first step was to cut the foam to the correct size.

Once that was done I used an old sheet to make a cover for the foam.

Now comes the tricky part. I used some cording and a large upholstery needle to sew a dog bone shape into the foam.

Once I was finished stitching I used some red house paint to finish off the dog bed.

It takes 3-4 coats to get to a kind of leathery finish. But once the painting is finished you are left with a surface that is very easy to clean.

I have two queen size foam mattress toppers that I wanted to use for a dog bed and maybe donate to a shelter. If I make a dog bed I would want to use a fabric that I can clean/wipe down bc it will get dirty, not sure what fabric to use that would be comfortable and cozy for my dog. I usually throw the dog beds I have in the washer but I don't think u can do that with a topper? The regular dog beds after u wash them clump up so I have the small fleece throws that I put in the bed so the dog can move it around to get comfortable.
