Sparkling Glitter Ball Ornaments

2 Materials
Store-bought ornaments can be SO expensive - some of the prettier ones up to $10 a piece!! I decided to make my own jewel-toned ornaments that rival the expensive ones at a fraction of the price. These pretty ornaments use inexpensive foam balls and colorful glitter for a big impact. They really do sparkle on the Christmas tree!

This project is as simple as sprinkling glitter on a Mod Podge covered foam ball and giving them a shake! You don't need a special glitter shaker like this. Any plastic container with a lid will work!
Supplies: Foam balls in three different sizes, Mod Podge, glitter, foam brush, plastic container, hot glue, string, and darning needle.
Step 1: cover the foam ball with a generous amount of Mod Podge using your foam brush. Place the ball in a container and sprinkle generously with glitter. Cover the container and give it a good shake to cover the ball!

Repeat with other sizes of balls using the same color of glitter. You can then save any extra glitter before rinsing out the container and moving onto the next color.
Step 2: Continue making several balls in a variety of different colors. A glitter drying rack works great for allowing them to dry completely.
Step 3: Once dry, glue a large, medium, and small ball together with a dab of hot glue. Thread a strong needle with thread and string through the top of the large ball to create the ornament hanger.
They look so pretty when grouped together on the tree, and you can customize the colors to match your holiday decor!

These are beautiful!! Thanks for the great project. I make homemade ornaments each year. To attach the balls together you could also use a long needle and embroidery floss. There are metallic flosses that would look so nice with this. Make a large knot by knotting over another knot, add a bead then the needle, go straight through each ball one at a time starting with the bottom ball, remove the needle, add a bead after the last (top) ball, tie a large loop at the top for a hanger and cut off excess floss. Just another idea.
