I brought it home and started to repair the drawers.
I gave the body a good cleaning as it was incredibly dirty.
I sanded the top and stained it and I started my base coat of green.
Next, I put a bright blue over the green and wet distressed it letting some of the wood and some of the green show through.
I was excited that I found matching tissue paper.
I decoupaged it to the outside of the drawers and the sides. I also lined the bottom of the drawers with it. I didn't worry about decoupaging it on perfect. I left it wrinkled so that I could come back and age the edges and some of the wrinkles with a sanding block. I sealed the whole thing in Polyvine Wax Varnish Dead Flat.
The result is a fabulous new coffee bar!
A great cheery place to make my coffee in the mornings!

Jodi Jackson on Jun 18, 2017Thanks Michelle! I love bright colors! I only used one piece of tissue but I folded it in half. Some of it is torn just a little and it isn't smooth on the surface. I paint very aged so putting it on like that lets me sand down the ridges and makes it look a little older. I put it on and just smooth it with my hand vs. using any kind of tool to smooth it out with. I think to get it really smooth with tissue paper and not tear it would be hard to do!

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
Hi, this is not a question! I just thought I'd let you know what you really have. It's not an old dresser but an antique wash stand which was missing it's harp towel bar. I have one exactly like it although mine has not been altered. Just so you know for any future purchases you might make, if you alter the finish or add or take off parts which didn't come on the furniture originally it destroys the antique value of a piece! Having said that, sometimes pieces are in such bad shape that they can't be brought back to their original shape so I commend you giving this old girl usefulness and purpose once again.
You have my heart! That..., is just right. Well done.
Hello Jodi. Where can you buy the tissue paper that is printed?
