I made this "family" wall art using old wood trim pieces, pallet boards, and slats. I took the backing off an old frame and bent the staples to remove the cardboard and picture. I painted the wooded frame with 3 coats of acrylic craft paint. I printed off the word "family" in a font I liked, cleaned the glass and taped it to the backside of the glass. Using a felt tip marker, I traced the word "family" on the front of the glass. I then flipped the glass over, removed the paper and painted the letters on the backside of the glass following the marker outline. Yes, you will be painting the word "family" backwards. I needed 3 coats of white acrylic craft paint. After drying, clean the marker outline from the front of the glass. I chose an assortment of wooden trim and narrow boards for the back of the frame. I measured the trim and cut them to fit the back of the frame. Some of the pieces I choose had old green paint chipping off in places. I painted some of the other trim a light green, turquoise blue and white and left some of the trim in the natural wood. Since there is now no picture orcardboard in the frame, I used a roll of weather stripping to hold the glass to the front of the frame and re-bent the staples to hold to all together. Double check to make sure the painted glass has the painted side toward the inside of the frame. I attached the trim to the back of the frame using small screws, added a metal picture hanger and it now has a place of honor in our living room. This project cost me $0, because I already had all the supplies on hand.
