I bought my home, as a single mother with limited resources, knowing that there were going to be things that I didn't like about my "New to me" home. It was built in the 50s and had a makeover in some areas, but outdated in most areas. This was the worst...I cringed every time. See below for an option for those with few tools and without a bucket of money
before pic...for the record still hate it
painted the brick with a low key color and a darker color for the mantel
for some pop...added this mosaic bubble tile in front of the hearth...remember I have limited tools and a wet tile cutter is not one of them...using these I was able to cover as much as possible with full sheets and then cut down a sheet to fill in the edges
side by side
FINISHED...NAILED IT!!!

Can I paint tiles?
Loan, since you say your fireplace isn't being used, what do you think about this idea.........To give it a 'finished' look, paint the inside of the fireplace either flat black or dark charcoal grey? Great job, love how yours turned out!!
My fireplace was painted by a painter. We use the fireplace in winter. All around the screen is blackening from using the fire. I don't know whether to
wash it and with what, or repaint it?
