During the past few days I have been rethinking my back splash behind my stove. It seems like every time I am making sauces, I end up with some on the back splash behind my stove. My back splash has the glass tiles, but there is stone in it too. It is such a pain trying to get the sauce out of the stone. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this little problem.
So, I came up with the idea of putting stainless steel behind the stove. (I love the stainless look). I loaded up the doggies and we went to our home improvement store. I went up and down the isles, thinking and looking for something that would suffice for what I was looking for. Then we came upon the plumbing department. Then I came across this:
(I forgot to take a picture of the piece in the box, so when I was done with the project, I put the above left overs in the box above just to show you. ) This looked perfect..and under $7.00. Next I purchased some snippers:
I can always use new tools to play with!! When I cut the metal with the snipers, you can see small indentations. So I went back to the store, (doggies love the store, the people in the paint department always has goodies for them). In the Flooring department I found these end pieces that were with the stick on tiles.
See below how the sheet slips right in and makes a clean edge:
While I was there, I picked up this product I had heard so much about. It glues anything to almost anything:
Love this stuff! Well this is how it turned out:
I used the glue. The best way is to use some screws on all 4 sides to hold it on. I had tile underneath mine so I chose to do it this way.
It looks great with the backsplash I recently put down! I forgot to mention that I used Clear Krylons latex spray paint on the metal...let it dry before I put up, I did not use the Krylon primer, as it would make the H20 paint unable to adhere!!
Enjoyed the project?

In my opinion, it would be worth the extra money to buy a thin sheet of stainless steel. Unless you are going for the farmhouse esthetic style, galvanized metal looks out of place in a kitchen with stainless appliance and modern decor. Google a supplier in your area or go to a metal shop and have them cut to your specifications. Do not paint it.

I have a large roll of stain steel in my garage. I haven't gotten to it yet, but am planning to cut a large rectangle to cover the inside of my solid pantry door with the stainless. Obviously tape or framing the corners. BUT, this will allow me to get all the iitems' off my refrigerator! (p.s. the black metal paint did not work. I thought it might have been an old can from H.D.)

Linda kelley on Jul 25, 2017What black metal paint did you use? On the fridge? or the stainless piece you have? It sounds like you have a great idea!!! Be sure to use a strong indoor adhesive, like Gorilla Construction Glue. Have tape on hand to hold it down till dry. Also if you have some clamps,(you can buy at dollar tree) to keep it held down tight till dry. Put something soft, between the clamp and stainless so it doesn't leave any marks. Good luck! Great idea!!!!

Have a question about this project?
Sure hope you used snippets and not snipers...snipers are the guys who have expert marksmanship with guns...😄
What part did you paint . Why would you paint stainless steel?
What was the metal strip that you surrounded the steel backsplash with? Was it for stick on floor tiles? Does it have a name? And which store did you buy it at? It’s not listed in the materials.
its a great job!
