Easy
I found this gem on Craigslist for FREE.. The ad read, "I bought this dresser years ago with the intention of restoring it. We found out, we are not those people. "

Get rid of the peeling veneer top. I saturated a towel with water and draped it over the top to soak in. This helps to loosen the glue holding the veneer down. Let it sit for a day or 2 making sure to keep the towel very wet.
Veneer slid right off after 2 days
Repair time
I used autobody supplies for this step. Dolphin Glaze by Upol, available at Sherwin Williams Automotive. Body filler (aka bondo) for heavy duty repairs.
Clean the hardware by pouring boiling water into a pot and adding 1 finish one dishwasher detergent tablet to it and let it soak for about 20-30 min.
*Note- this step will remove any coating that prevents tarnish.
bottom one is after the soak.
Since there was alot of repairs needed I had to paint the body. I stained the top and drawer front to preserve as much of the original piece.
