Hi my name is Sally and this project came about, because we are doing a total remodel of the bathroom. We will be sealing off a door in the back which will create a new wall in the family room. I knew I would not be able to create the faux paint job on the wall, so I thought maybe a faux brick wall would work.
I check out the prices of the interlock faux brick and it would have been too expensive, so I saw these at Menards and they are 4x8 panels and were $25.99 each and the store is currently doing 11% off everything, so I thought I would also do the living room wall also. We bought 7 panels and we decided to use the paneling nails and not the liquid nails, I don’t want to tear up the walls if or when I decided to take it down.
We put the panels up and thought there has to be something we could do for the straight line seems, so I posted a help question on Hometalk and got some great responses. We went with the paint strip and caulking, worked pretty good, but I will be trying a painters caulk in the family room instead of the one I use (All season Formula), I also took a small piece of the wall to match up color of grout. Of course no wall is straight so on the last piece we had to lower the panel to match it up with the grout line and that left a space up at the top, we caulk it but it didn’t look good. So we repurposed some frame wood from the door and used it as a crown molding to cover up the top, otherwise we would have bought some corner round or something similar, we loved how it turned out and hopefully the family room we be a breeze to put up. Our ceiling is 7 1/2 ft so we did have to cut each piece and If we had the paint and caulking, I believe this job could be done in a day, probably less.
