In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make a cutting board shaped like a Christmas tree. This will make the perfect Christmas gift. Enjoy!
I picked bamboo for the base cutting board and hardwood dowels for the "ornaments" Maple would also make a great choice. One dowel was Rosewood and the other Walnut -- both on the dark side. I laid out the general shape and placement of the ornaments. And notice the star for the handle.
I used a 1.5 inch Forstner bit to drill the holes for dowel slices, the same diameter as the hardwood dowels. It's a total of 10 holes.
Use a jigsaw or bandsaw to cut out the cutting board shape.
Cut out the dowel slices with a chop saw, table saw, or a band saw. Dowel slices are same thickness as the bamboo board.
I used wood glue on the dowel slices and tapped into place with a rubber mallet. Wipe off the excess glue. Allow the glue to dry overnight.
I used a disk / belt sander combo to sand the surfaces and edges. This was rough sanding to get the surface flush and get rid of saw marks.
You can use a jigsaw or scroll saw to cut out the star. A scroll saw will probably give you a cleaner cut star.
I went over the cutting board with my orbital sander. Used 120 grit and then 220 grit.
I finished the cutting board with my beeswax butter. Here is a link to the recipe. You might also consider subscribing to my newsletter. If you subscribe, I will send you my free Home Shop Safety and Tool Checklist.

Here is my YouTube video on how to make the cutting board. I realize some like to watch videos also. I invite you to watch and hope you will subscribe to my channel. Thanks!
