Giving That Old Bi-fold Door a New Look

We are currently in the process of giving our master bathroom a new look. In an effort to save money and also retain a lot of the old doors, hardware, etc we are trying to use as much of what is in the bathroom now. Our master bath also serves as the main bathroom of the house ( our home was built in 1921). There is a door that leads to the master bedroom and one to the hallway. The door that leads to the master bedroom is a bifold door (we put that door up years ago. It replaced an old standard door). At first, we were going to buy a new door. I told my husband to let's hold off buying a new door. I think I can refurbish what we have. With a lot of thought and ingenuity, I did just that.
As you can see this is your standard bi-fold door. We took the door down, took it outside and placed it on a couple of saw horses.
Now this what one would say is an ugly beat up door.
I am sorry that I got carried away in the heat of the moment and forgot to take photos of the sanding and painting process but, my next step was to sand the door and paint it with a high gloss black paint. I had some embellishments that we had been removed from an old dresser. I used those as embellishments on the door.
I had to decide how I wanted to attach the pieces. There were some holes in the pieces. Not having any very small nails available I decided to use straight pins. I pushed those through the holes and using a small hammer I nailed them into the door. Time to take the door in and put it back on the track. We are pleased with the outcome and best of all did not have to buy a new door.

I really like the look however I think I would have used a satin paint instead. Like even black chalkboard paint.

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
did you use black paint on the side toward your bedroom? What about embellishments?
Great job and it looks really great! I am curious about the door knob. What is on the other side of the door? I've never seen a knob that goes through a bifold.
Very creative! How do you lock/unlock from each side?
