Ground Cherries require full sun and fairly warm to hot temperature, very much like tomatoes. Ground Cherries are easy to grow from seed, but need an early start, 8- 10 weeks before the last frost day just like pepper plants. They mature 60-65 days after transplanting. We grow Aunt Molly’s Ground Cherry They need about 2 – 3 feet of space. They grow up to 2 feet tall but do not need support.Ground Cherries tend to reseed themselves, you might only have to plant them once.
Ground Cherries are a nice looking plant
Ground Cherries have little orange fruit inside an attractive paper wrapper. Fruits fall from the plants when ripe.
Ground Cherries can be used in preserves, pies or over ice cream, or can just be eaten raw.
Ground Cherries store very well. Just like tomatoes they need a dry, dark place, not necessarily cold.
