From trash to treasure: how we upcycled an old dresser into our dream island.
I started by removing the doors completely! There were super nice shelves inside that were perfect for displaying kitchen items!
Next, I removed the drawers. These are going to be painted separately. Then, I started priming everything! Using a good primer saves a ton of time because it means no sanding necessary!!
The back looked a little plain, so Adam added some trim work to make the back look more finished and polished.
I found this great butcher block top from Craigslist that I really wanted to use for the top of this island. So, Adam built up a base to add it to. Once everything was in place, I stained and sealed the top.
Then, I lightly distressed the paint and then let everything dry.
It's now the perfect island for our otherwise small kitchen.
We love how this upcycled piece has added usuable space to our home. It's the perfect spot for breakfast, doing homework and keeping me company in the kitchen while I cook!
