Drawer To Cubby Shelf

I was at a local used building supplies warehouse with a friend showing her all the stuff they carry from doors, light fixtures and drawers. This place has everything you need in building supplies that has been pulled out of old homes. As I looked around I saw these old wood drawers so I said I'm going to get a couple to make some shelf's out of them. Her face was something else, I said wait and see they are going to be super cool! I loaded them up in my trunk and off we went. I went home and made this cubby shelf see step by step how I did it.
Material you'll need to do this project:
Drawer (any size you want I recommend an all wood)
Wood I used 1x3 (get the size that fits your drawer depth)
Saw
Stain
Nail Gun
Hardware labels (optional of course)
Wallpaper
Square
Pencil
Tape Measure
Small screw Driver
I started with this solid wood drawer that had metal rails on the side but I removed them. I measured the inside, side to side and cut 2 long shelf's.
next I cut small divider once I had the 2 cross boards in.
I then stained all of the wood shelf boards. While that was drying I went inside to line the back of the drawer.
I purchased this wallpaper that looks like faux wood. I applied it to the inside of the back of the drawer. I cut the paper to size and used a square to make sure it would fit. I then peeled the backing off but not to far. I then placed it and lined it up pulling with one hand and pressing with the other to make sure I didn't get any air bubbles.
I then placed all my stained shelf boards inside and nailed them down. I choose to nail where I wanted the boards. I originally wanted more but I ended up making less cubbies to give more space in each cubby.
I then grabbed some cute hardware to use as labels. These also gave my shelf an industrial feel
Finally I used the tiny screws which really were tiny to place them where I wanted. I centered them based on the cubbies.
Look how it came out. The cubby shelf is so cute and easy to do using and old drawer you might have around.
I filled it with a few cute collectables I had, I'll eventually hang it on the wall to add a little farmhouse industrial décor. I showed a friend and she wants one for coffee mugs so depending on the person there is many uses for this fun project.

A beautiful way to gain extra storage space and repurpose an item that might have ended up in the dump. Great job done on this. Love the use of wallpaper on the back and the metal tags on each cubbie. Definitely worthy of a page in a home decorating magazine. BEAUTIFUL.
