Hi! Can I use crates that come pre-stained in a white or gray? Would the painting steps be different using them? Or is it better to find crates with nothing on them?
Thanks!

Hi Nancy, It will depend on the finish you want. In my opinion there's no rule of thumbs. So if you find a crate that has already the look you love, go for it and just seal the wood if necessary and you saved time. If the crate is pre-stained and sealed then I would suggest sand it to open wood pores so you can dry brush to the actual finish you want. The good side of having a raw crate (or wood piece of any kind) is that you can do whatever you want with it and make it unique to you but it will depend on what you have in mind. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions!
Hugs

Frequently asked questions
Have a question about this project?
what size crates did you use and how wide was the top.
how tall including wheels. The crates I found were 18 inches tall
I might be able to do this! The crates are often on sale at Michael's! Do you suppose those crates could support a soapstone top? Yours made me want to use it! Live in the Northeast so I won't be doing it for some months, but I really like what you've done!
