I have had this small chest of drawers for quite a few years. It started off being pine and I initially painted it in my 'French Antique Style'
Over the past few years I have also started to use some different techniques in my painting of furniture and thought it was about time to 'change out' the style' and give it a little more TLC and some updating.
First of all I gave it a good clean and sanded it down to get rid of the wax that I had previously used on it.
I used 2 coats of my usual Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 primer/sealer. For me, this is the best on the market and sticks to anything and you get no 'bleed through'.
I then gave this a slight rub down with a sanding block before carrying on.
I decided to use a Satinado. (Spanish for Satin) I have used this paint before and it gives your furniture a really nice soft and beautiful look and it also gives a very hard wearing finish.
I used Luxens in Rosa Shock No2 - this is a bit like a 'baby pink' and I used two coats.
I always like to add some depth to a piece of furniture. I don't like to use clear wax, hence I make my own glazes and use different coloured waxes. For this piece - I used Liberon Wax and purchased it in gold/bronze. It is called 'Bronce' (Spanish for Bronze) but looks goldie colour. I decided to just use this wax on the top and the front of the base and the knobs because I had a different idea for the sides, which you will see further down.
I put the wax on using a lint free cloth - i.e. use an old T-Shirt
I decided to purchase a 'Bee' stencil and placed this on both sides of the chest and love how this turned out - making the chest a little different and quirky from the 'norm'
To 'recap' please see below a 'Before' and 'After' side by side
Please Note: This project only cost me 9.95 euros for the Luxens Satinado as I already had the primer and the wax from other projects I have completed. Once purchased, the paint, primer and the wax will do quite a few projects
Do not let any projects 'phase' you because if you don't try you will never know what you can achieve!
