Give New Life to a Well Worn Library Table
I love a challenge! I found this charming Library Table at a Habitat Restore...it was cast aside in the corner and on sale. The lines are beautiful. The table had seen better days...it was dull, scratched and worn. But, I saw a diamond in the rough...
I have been wanting to try a lovely shade of gray - chalk paint. I began to paint the whole table this gorgeous gray...then thought the top needed something special.
After the first coat dried I applied with a dry brush method lighter chalk paint randomly brushing here and there. I wanted the appearance of patina...almost the face of the moon look. Then I thought...it needed something more.
I found some lines to a French poem. I searched for beautiful script fonts. Then, I determined how large I wanted the script to be...printed it and transferred to the tabletop with graphite transfer paper. I then went over the handwriting with a fine permanent marker.
I finished off the table with a coat of beeswax. Now, it is gorgeous and it has personality. Don't discard an old table!
Give your table new life!
First - clean it well.
Second - paint table with chalk paint
Third - Select a lighter color and dry brush on top - dry brushing is when the brush is pretty much dry, but has enough paint on it to transfer to a surface.
Fourth - select your text and font; print and transfer to tabletop
Fifth - darken script with permanent marker
Sixth - finish table with a coat of wax
