Not too long ago a friend and I went to our favorite salvage store. They were going out of business so we needed one final trip. Among the treasures I bought is the plinth block, I had to look that one up. Now I could have displayed it as is but felt it did need a bit of work to freshen it up.
I knew I had a large wood circle with a decorative edge. My thought was to put them together to give the plinth block a more finished look. After putting a sawtooth hanger on the back of the circle I glued the two pieces together.
Then I sanded the pieces to smooth it out but not enough to destroy the character of the wood. I painted it by layering the paint. I gave it a coat of cream paint and then white.
A light distressing and a coat of clear and then dark wax gave it the look I was going for.  It does add architectural interest to the wall. And by layering the two wood pieces gives it a finished look.
Suggested materials:

  • Plinth block   (Salvage Store)
