Learn how to make a marble paper towel holder with an item you can find in thrift stores! This affordable project is less than half the cost of a typical marble paper towel holder bought new.

Step 1: To begin, you need the base of a marble cheese dish. I regularly find cheese boards and cheese domes in thrift stores.

Our marble cheese dome cost less than $10. Once the glass dome broke, I repurposed the marble base for this modern project!

Step 2: Stain a wood dowel rod and let it dry while you begin working on the next step.

Step 3: Mark a dot at the center of the marble cheese board.

Step 4: Once the wood dowel is dry, apply glue the dowel and attach it to the center of the marble base.

Step 5: Leave the top wood, or finish it with a metal pipe cap (also attached with glue).

To learn more about the best type of adhesive, my favorite wood stain, and how I gave the metal cap a brass finish, head over to view the full modern paper towel holder tutorial on my blog.

It turned out beautifully! The marble looks stunning on our dark counters and it's heavy weight keeps it from tipping over.
