Thrifted Cup

I found an old cup at the thrift store that I loved. Unfortunately, I'm a little nutty when it comes to second hand food items. I was never going to drink out of it, but I did find a neat way to reuse it.

Ok, besides my crazy thrifting germophobia, this tea cup was a total mess. At one point I'm sure it was a lovely piece of shiny pottery, but now? Nope, it was scratched and awful...so not drinking out of that.

Frankly, I didn't want to display it that way either, but I loved the shape and its oversized stature... so I got to cleaning it up with a little bit of magic. Took no time at all to restore it.

Much better. I have to say that I knew there was a beauty hiding underneath all that mess. BUT. I still thought it needed more embellishment.

So, I grabbed a vinyl decal I had in my craft closet and applied it. I just stuck it on, pressed it down with a credit card and peeled off the top layer. It was the same technique I used with I made my "FLOUR" vase.

Yes, that is a play on words, but it turned out so darling, I couldn't resist. Plus, it's become a great conversation piece. But I digress...back to the tea cup!

Now, my thrift store find actually looked good enough to drink out of! However, I chose to fill it with pansies instead. It looks great on my kitchen countertop and I can fill it with seasonal plants.

Hi Kim, I just came across this old post and it gave me a chuckle. If we did not eat off second hand china we would starve as I probably have 1,000 pieces of it. However I think what you did with this cup is really cute. I have to ask. . . do you never eat in a restaurant? Or at anyone else's house?
