Fireplace Makeover: Plank Wall Tutorial
I absolutely love the way planked walls look and I thought, “What better place to feature one than the fireplace wall”. I wanted to make the fireplace the focal point of the living room, so it only felt natural to play up that little corner as much as possible. I was looking for something more affordable than pine boards or tongue-and-groove boards.
I used 1/4" hardwood floor underlayment (cut to my wall length and 6" wide) for my planks. I put a penny in between each board as my spacer before nailing it in place. I angled my nail gun so the planks wouldn't slide off the wall since I wasn't gluing them to the wall. Lattice was used to trim out the sides where the planks met the walls/ceiling.
After the planks and trim were installed, I filled the nail holes with wood filler and caulked the seams. Finally, I primed and painted 3 coats of Sherwin Williams in Alabaster (my favorite white!).
Who can't appreciate a gorgeous plank wall?
